This morning at CrossHope Chapel as we looked at Genesis 3, I had mentioned that I didn’t cover something that I had noted to bring out in our study discussion, and that was 10 effects of sin on humanity specifically mentioned in this chapter.

So, here are 10 Effects of Sin in Genesis 3:

1. Sin caused separation between Christ and Man. (Genesis 3:8)
2. Sin brought fear into our lives. (Genesis 3:10)
3. Sin brought shame into our lives. (Genesis 3:10)
4. Sin brought accusations against others into our lives. (Genesis 3:12-13)
5. Sin brought pain in childbearing into our lives. (Genesis 3:16)
6. Sin brought subjection of the wife to husband into our lives. (Genesis 3:16)
7. Sin caused a curse of the ground to produce thistles and thorns. (Genesis 3:17)
8. Sin caused toil and pain into the labor of providing food. (Genesis 3:17-19)
9. Sin brought death into our human experience. (Genesis 3:19)
10. Sin banished mankind from its perfect home and the Tree of Life. (Genesis 3:24)

In Revelation 21:1-4 we read, “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

Thank God for the book of Revelation where we can find hope in knowing that our original domain will be restored and there will be no more separation because God Himself will dwell with us. There will be no more death, neither will there be any pain as we work in eternity (remember work was given us before the fall and Isaiah 65:17-25 says we’ll be working there), and certainly there will be no fear, no shame, and no blaming another in Heaven.

Peter gives us a similar description as that in Revelation 21:1-4 when he wrote about the new heaven and the new earth in 2 Peter 3:10-14. What is really encouraging to us is that Peter specially concluded that passage with these words, “Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things” (2 Peter 3:14).

Peter tells us to be looking for the restoration of Creation and the redemption of man, to be looking for Eden made new again.

It reminds me of Paul’s words in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 when he wrote about the dead in Christ rising at the return of the Lord and the living in Christ being caught up in the air with Him, and then Paul adds, “Wherefore comfort one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:18).

What a reason to give glory to our God. He hasn’t left us to be doomed in our own disobedience, but He has provided for both restoration and redemption, and to that I say, Praise the Lord!
