Jesus is God
Many years ago a sincere church member once asked me, Is Jesus really God? They went on to explain that they see where the Bible says Jesus prayed to God the Father, was called the Son of God, and they even pointed to the account of Jesus saying he didn’t know when he was coming back, only God knew that.
Well, let me share three biblical reasons why Jesus is God…
1) When the gospels record that Jesus is the “Son of God” please know that it is a term of being equal to the father, not subordinate to, as we sometimes think in our modern world. A “son” is considered an exact manifestation in likeness, character, and authority as the father. In John 17:12 Judas is described as the “son of perdition,” but John 6:71 tells us that Judas was the son of Simon. Judas was not the literal birthed son of “son of perdition,” but that was the identity of Judas’ life. Likewise, Jesus as the Son of God is the perfect manifestation of God (Hebrews 1:3; Colossians 1:15).
2.) The Bible calls Jesus God. In prophecy Jesus is called God (Isaiah 9:6), the Apostle Paul calls Jesus God (Romans 9:5; Titus 2:13), the Apostle Peter calls Jesus God (Romans 9:5; Titus 2:13), the Apostle Thomas calls Jesus God (John 20:28), the Apostle John calls Jesus God (John 1:1; John 1:17-18; 1 John 5:20), and Jesus referred to Himself as God (John 5:16-18; John 10:30-33).
3.) Jesus possesses the same qualities attributed to God. Jesus is eternal (Colossians 1:17; Psalm 90:2). Jesus is unchanging (Hebrews 13:8; Malachi 3:6). Jesus is everywhere present (Matthew 28:20; Psalm 139:7-12). Jesus is all knowing (Colossians 2:3; Psalm 147:5). Jesus is all-powerful (Matthew 28:18; Jeremiah 32:17).
Now, that you know from Scripture that the same Jesus spoken of world over is God, test Him for your yourself. Go to Him in prayer and ask Him to reveal His divine power in your life.
