Many years ago I hosted a syndicated radio broadcast called Ask the Bible which was a listener call-in question and answer radio show in the South Carolina and North Carolina market.

It’s hard for me to think of those days or use the phrase “Ask the Bible” without thinking about Les Waugh.

Les was a parishioner and elder at a church I once served as pastor in Rock Hill, South Carolina back in 1990 – 1993. While serving there I had a radio broadcast ministry called Ask the Bible and Les was always right there with me in that outreach ministry.

The Ask the Bible radio broadcast offered a question and answer format for callers and provided a series of personal Bible studies by the same name. Those Bible study guides have gone through some editing since, but are available at my Study Guides page today.

Long after I moved on from that church and the radio broadcast ended, Les continued with the Ask the Bible personal Bible study ministry up until his death in 2014.

Les was a pastor’s best friend and greatest encouragement, but more importantly, he was a friend and encourager to all he met. His wife and children were gems of encouragement, as well, and often babysat my two oldest daughters when they were toddlers as Les and I went evangelizing door to door.

Les was an influence for the gospel, a soul-winner, a preacher, and a man full of humor with a sincere love for people.

When I get to heaven, Les will be one of the first people I will want to find.

I miss Les. I miss the minister who I was when I was with Les. I miss his passion for the Bible as the only standard of truth, and I miss him every time I read this verse:

“And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.” Daniel 12:3 (ESV)
