There is a lot of chaos in our society and it is an intentional strategy of Satan, because we know from John 10:10 that he “comes only to steal and kill and destroy” (ESV) and Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that we “wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

Jesus wants us to have life more abundantly while Satan roars about like a lion seeking ways to devour everything we posses that promotes life, killing anything that gives life, and destroying whatever sustains life (and that would include a harmonious free society that we have had in America).

A society functioning against life is hell’s aim and that means pitting people against other people, which we see him doing by confounding us with words that mean something completely different to everyone who hears. God uses words to bring life, Satan uses words to bring death. God has given us words for communication and Satan seeks to usurp that from God’s intention.

The enemy of souls hopes to draw out the sinful human nature within us as outward expressed malice against each other. Which is why we now have people throwing words around like darts to deflate opposing views, and leaving conversations void of considerations of what those words actually mean to the one they are directed toward.

The rise of social media and the absence of intact traditional families with fathers in the home, has led to a society of people who have lost the skill of communicating as adults with adults. The use of words has been God’s ordained means of communication in life and Satan seeks to steel, kill, and destroy that purpose.

Words like “racist” or “bigot” or “hater” or any number of other terms have became grenades thoughtlessly tossed to assault character not to engage in meaningful discernment or as an attempt to deal with the truth of the situation. We have a society of sides, because we have a society of parrots who mimic the emotions of others, not the truth of the Lord Jesus Christ and the reality of human circumstances.

The one who is moved by emotions without regard for truth is a pawn in Satan’s work of “to steal and kill and destroy” but for you and I, let’s have pity on them through prayer because remember that ignorance is akin to iniquity, as Jesus said from the cross in Luke 23:34 “for they know not what they do.” We are to be changed by the “renewing of our minds” (Romans 12:2) not by our emotions because our hearts are wicked (Jeremiah 17:9) and can only be changed by God Himself (Ezekiel 36:26).

A heart that is void of the Spirit of God is a mouth that full of malice toward another, but for you and I, let us not avoid national conversation or pretend it doesn’t exist, but let us remind ourselves that “the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us” (Romans 5:5).

Yes, we recognize the hypocrisy of public protesters and the half-truth displayed on social media, we see the unconstitutional bias against the Christian and the Church, but we do not fret (Psalm 37:1), instead let us process it all through prayer, fight back through our legal rights, secure whatever means of legal protection is necessary, and all the while we keep our minds on the promises of God, including Isaiah 26:3 “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you” (ESV).

Jesus has warned us the voices would arise that would divert the truth, displace harmony, and try our patience for loving one another. Matthew 24:11-14 states that “many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”

Let us not give way to malice but let us stand for the truth and allow the witness of the Spirit of Truth to shine forth before the people about us that “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35).
