Better in Eternity
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” — Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV
The human spirit is an intricate thing and a never ending study for someone with an interest in why we do what we do when times get tough. Generally speaking, we all seem to share a desire to live, to survive, to beat the odds against the circumstances that otherwise will bring us harm, even to the point of death.
There are those of us who seem to give up the fight and not take a stand against whatever it may be posing the challenge. It’s not always a weakness of will, but just ill health or conditions from old age. However, we all share a yearning for something better in eternity and an absence of the constant problems of this world. We have an innate desire for something better beyond this life and we see from this verse that God put this in our heart when He created us.
Like newly birthed turtles who turn toward the moonlight as their guide to the sea, our heart’s want for a better life is what turns our eyes to eternity. Which is where we’ll find our Creator’s promise of life to the fullest.
