Forsake Anger
Satan is happy to incite anger among all that will yield to it, because anger can quickly and easily be inflamed into his mission “to steal and kill and destroy” (John 10:10).
But I say to you, forsake anger so you become part of Jesus’ mission of “have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).
Now I realize we are human and society’s nose dive into sin and ignorance can cause the best of us to get angry, but let’s remember Ephesians 4:26 which admonishes to “be angry and do not sin.”
The secret is to be angry, but not to stay angry.
Like any temptation that we face, there is no sin in being angry, but as we are drawn in by our own ungodly desires, we then sin (James 1:15).
Instead, like any other temptation, we face it by claiming the promise of 1 Corinthians 10:13 and take “the way of escape” through prayer and Scripture, and here are three verses to help…
• Psalm 37:8 which says, “Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil” (ESV).
• Proverbs 29:11 says, “A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back” (ESV).
• Matthew 5:22, when Jesus states, “I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire” (ESV).
