When we look at the Creation account in Genesis 1 we find nine times that the phrase “God said” is used to describe the creation process. You will also see that after the record declares that “God said” to whatever He created a follow-up phrase states “and it was so” or “and it was good.”

The encouraging thing for you and I is to know that the word of our God is sure and certain. Isaiah 55:11 says, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

We know from Scripture that Jesus is God (see an earlier post “Jesus is God”), and is the Creator as we read John 1:1-3; John 1:10; Hebrews 1:1-2; Colossians 1:14-17; and Ephesians 3:8-9.

What I find worth noting is how often we find Jesus speaking and having instantaneous results like the Creation week of Genesis 1 and here are six of those accounts…

John 11:43-44 says Jesus spoke and instantly Lazarus came forth from the tomb.

Matthew 8:16 records that Jesus “cast out the spirits with his word.”

Mark 9:25-26 gives us an account of Jesus calling a demon leave a man and it was so.

Matthew 8:28 records men marveling that Jesus spoke to the winds and it instantly was stilled.

Matthew 8:8 we read of the Gentile centurion who said to Jesus “speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.” 

John 5:28-29 we read that Jesus says the time coming when He will speak to those in their graves and they will come forth in the resurrection.

Tomorrow at CrossHope Chapel we will talk more about the Creation week and how this also fits with an understanding of the days of Creation, but the big thought I wanted to share is that we can be confident in the word of God.
