The Lord’s Leading
“Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced” — 1 Chronicles 16:12 NIV
If we forget the way the Lord has led us in our past circumstances we leave ourselves vulnerable to fearfulness as we face our future. The unknown of what lies ahead can easily stir up feelings of anxiety, especially as we enter old age. As our health and resources become weaker we simply don’t feel as confident in facing the unknown of our future, as we may have in our youth.
I once knew a guy who kept a small index card box that he would fill with answered prayers and what he saw as God’s providential intervention in his life. He would jot those circumstances down on an index card and keep it in his file box with other cards he had written on. From time to time he would pick up his index card box and read through his written notes. He said remembering how God was with him in the past gave him faith for his future.
I’m not sure I could be disciple enough to maintain some type of file system as my friend did, but I do know he was absolutely correct in being intentional about remembering the Lord’s leading in our past so we can face the future with a stronger faith.
